Who are we
History
The firm started as a partnership known as Van der Merwe and Van der Merwe Attorneys. Pieter and Marthinus van der Merwe started working together in 2017 as partners, with one branch in Cullinan, Gauteng, managed by Marthinus and the other branch in Brooklyn, Pretoria, managed by Pieter. In 2018 Pieter relocated to George and opened a branch there, from where he is currently practicing. It was decided that each of the partners would continue practicing as sole practitioners, hence the George branch's name was changed to Van der Merwe attorneys, with Pieter as the sole proprietor.
Pieter was admitted as an attorney in the High Court of South Africa in 2003 after he obtained his LLB degree (cum laude) in 2000. He completed his articles at Tim du Toit in Pretoria. He specialises in Civil Litigation, Commercial Law and Business Rescues. He is a passionate litigant and advisor who has represented clients across the globe. Not only has he appeared in most litigation forums in the country but is he committed to ensure that each and every person enjoys their right to legal representation without fear or favour. His expertise and experience add value to his clients' businesses and provides peace of mind in difficult circumstances.

Lisa Dippenaar started off as receptionist and secretary. Lisa completed her studies in 2024 and is now enrolled as a candidate attorney with the firm. Her e-mail address is pa3@vdmattorney.co.za

Look out for Debt Clearance Scams
We have been contacted by various individuals recently, enquiring about credit deductions and debt review debit orders. It seems as if our firm is miss associated for a debt review/debt clearance firm. Kindly take note that we do not make any deductions from accounts for debt clearance. Individuals are warned to obtain full details of companies which purport to act as debt review companies under our name and to report any such persons or companies to the SAPS.
FAQs
- Telephonic advice - Kindly take note that we do not provide advice without obtaining all the necessary information. Appointments will have to be made after which the process will be explained and during which advice will be given.
- Fees - Fees are always an important consideration. It is unfortunately impossible to guess how much fees for a specific matter will be. Initial consultation fees are R2750 , plus VAT, should a once-off consultation be required. Fees will be properly explained during the consultation.
- Do I have a good case? Many clients expect attorneys to indicate the chances of success. This is understandable. It is however impossible for attorneys to guarantee any outcome as it depends on various factors, although the strong and weak points of each case will be pointed out. This will all be explained during the consultation process.
